The Future of Robotics – UK RAS STEPS at Cambridge
A workshop saw an inspiring and energising gathering at the University of Cambridge, bringing together Research Technical Professionals from across the Robotics and Autonomous Systems community.
Hosted by Cambridge in partnership with UK RAS STEPS, the workshop kicked off with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and collaboration, setting the stage for an afternoon of knowledge exchange, networking, and shared innovation. With fully funded access for attendees, the event created an inclusive space for RAS professionals to connect, learn, and explore new possibilities.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions designed to spark discussion, share best practices, and uncover opportunities for deeper collaboration across the UK RAS landscape. It was exciting to see so many talented individuals coming together to strengthen our community and push the boundaries of what RAS can achieve.
Highlights included:
- Fantastic demonstrations and talks from Post-docs and researchers, showcasing cutting-edge ideas and practical applications.
-
Presentations from the University of Cambridge technical teams, including the Head of Design and Technical Services and Makerspace Manager, who introduced the Robot Club – a Robot Wars-style format that looks like a fantastic idea to broaden across our network.
-
Lightning talks from attendees covering a wide range of RAS topics: from aerospace and assistive health technologies, to autonomous vehicles in shopping centres to additive manufacturing.
-
We were thrilled to welcome RTPs from: University of Cambridge, Leeds, Nottingham, Nottingham Trent, Oxford, Kent, Cranfield, Birmingham, Manchester, Imperial College London, and King’s College London. Such diversity of technical expertise from across the UK made this event truly special.
And the best part? This is just the beginning! We’ll be replicating this workshop at other institutions soon.
