Robotics Workshop at Imperial College, London
Join us for an exciting interactive showcase of world-leading research, facilities, and innovations in robotics, engineering, autonomous systems, and intelligent sensing at the University of Leeds.
The event will feature live demonstrations from Dr Alexandra Yarger, showcasing an advanced motion capture system within the flight arena. Visitors will discover how this technology enables highly precise tracking and analysis of flying animals and micro air vehicles (MAVs), supporting cutting-edge research in biomechanics and robotics.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to explore several electrophysiology rigs currently configured for visual stimulation experiments, offering insight into how researchers investigate neural activity, sensory processing, and biological intelligence.
Live demonstrations of both fly-controlled and autonomous robotic platforms will highlight how biological systems inspire the design, control, and development of next-generation robots.
DART: Dynamic Automated Real-Time Tracking System
A major highlight of the event will be DART (Dynamic Automated Real-Time Tracking), an advanced high-speed tracking platform currently under development. Attendees will see two versions of the system in action:
- Motion Capture-Based Tracking: Uses reflective markers to deliver highly accurate tracking of moving objects.
- Markerless Real-Time Tracking: Employs event-based camera technology to track flying animals and micro air vehicles without reflective markers, enabling fast and efficient real-time analysis.
ROBOGAST: Next-Generation Robotic Endoscopy
The event will also showcase ROBOGAST, an EPSRC-funded research programme led by Professor Ferdinando Rodriguez y Baena and presented by Dr Jialei Shi at the Hamlyn Centre.
ROBOGAST is developing innovative soft robotic technologies for minimally invasive gastrointestinal procedures. The programme aims to transform traditional endoscopy through the creation of intelligent, self-propelled robotic endoscopes. By bringing together expertise in soft robotics, surgical robotics, artificial intelligence, and clinical translation, researchers and clinicians are working to improve patient comfort, enhance procedural safety, and accelerate the adoption of advanced healthcare technologies.

Participants will enjoy guided tours of laboratories within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Hamlyn Centre, gaining behind-the-scenes access to pioneering research in:
